There's experience behind the stories

I've experienced IPOs both as a middle-manager (SABA) and a technology executive (UPWK). When Apple announced their 1 billionth downloaded on the app store and celebrated the top 25 downloaded apps of that time, eBay and Netflix were two of them; but I was probably the only person who incubated two of the engineering teams on that list. I've seen the scaling journey at all levels of companies from 25 person companies to ones that are in the Fortune 500. Along the way, I've experienced downturns, layoffs, and existential business events including state sponsored cyberattacks. But behind the stories, I offer you experience to help you solve your problems as they exist today.

  • Increase Scale

    Scaling isn't (just) a systems problem or a strategy problem, it also a people problem. When I work with you to scale your company, I'm looking at the whole picture.

  • Increase Efficiency

    Brooke's Law (aka The Mythical Man-Month) is an observation about software project management that says that when people are added to a software project that is behind schedule the act delays the project further. When I work with you, I will work with the team you have and not the team you want or wished you had.

  • REDUCE RISK

    Peter Drucker once said, "There is the risk you cannot afford to take, and there is the risk you cannot afford not to take." I can help you figure out when to push, and when to pull back.

  • INCREASE LEARNING

    Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. My practice is heavily focused on retrospectives and introspection.
